Rumor Presents…

MICHAEL WOODS:
Ability, originality and accomplishment. In Michael Woods’ short career he has managed to touch on every cornerstone, leaving proof of his musical competence at producing big room, progressive and tech-house tracks, along with a discernible motivation to better the quality of music being distributed. This has not gone unnoticed with DJs like Pete Tong consistently throwing props his way.

From Argentinean & Guyanese decent, he was born and raised in Hackney London which he still calls home and runs his studio from there. Classically trained in a range of instruments at an early age provided Michael with a catalogue of creative skills including the keys (which he learned to play at the tender age of 3), guitar, drums and trumpet, practically making him a one man band. When not in the studio messing around with Logic, developing his craft, he would be found at Pimlico’s Trinity Music College where he contracted a love for musicality, often using his spare time orchestrating with the percussion section of the London Symphony Orchestra.

Earlier achievements include his debut single, “Warrior” released in 2000 and the critically acclaimed remix of Energy 52’s “Café Del Mar”, both of which are still considered as classic’s among DJs and fans alike. But today’s finished products could not sound more different. They carry a deep, driving and delectable collection of electronic sounds, with melodious, cascading synths and hands-in-the-air rush-inducing drops. This is what Michael Woods is renowned for, and has created an individual sound that he is pioneering, making him a stunning example of an artist that flows with, as well as initiates, music’s changes.

Collaborations with the likes of Chris Lake, Funkagenda & Mark Knight conclude as featured tracks on various compilations and act as proof of his skillful production abilities. It’s alliances like these that excite the growing fan base, but are not the sole examples of his talent, as original tracks such as “Nitro”, “Midnight Run”, “Dynamik”, “No Access” and “First Aid” are continually supported.

Alongside an impressive catalogue of tracks on numerous labels including Mau5trap, and Toolroom Records, many established artists such as Underworld, Martin Sloveig and Moguai have hired Michael Woods to renovate their sound into a style which emulates his musical vision, including the Deadmau5 & Chris Lake’s “I Said”, which became the only remixed track featured on the 2010 album, “4×4=12”. In addition, mainstream artists such as Kylie, Estelle, The Ting Tings, The Temper Trap, P Diddy and Ginuwine ft Timbaland & Missy Elliot have all borrowed his insatiable remixing skills, leaving his studio rarely empty. His ability to rework music with an exceptionally sharp ear for quality production has left him in high regard with many artists and labels across the industry, leading to a nomination for ‘Best Remixer’ at this year’s 2011 IDMA’s (International Dance Music Awards).

Michael Woods now borrows some of this growing respect offering it to his label, Diffused Music, which houses applauded tracks from him self and others. The rapidly growing label is another imperative ingredient in furthering the exhilarating Michael Woods history book.

As well as the continuous success of his music, his dexterity as a DJ completes Michael Woods as a dynamic and credible artist. In demand across the globe he plays everywhere from Europe to USA, ending 2010 with a successful USA Tour. Other accomplishments to-date includes a summer residency for Cream at Amnesia in Ibiza (2010), while Deadmau5 invited him on his infamous 2010 UK tour. The latest addition to Michael’s ever increasing list of successes is being crowned the new global resident at one of dance music’s biggest super brands: Ministry of Sound. With industry heavyweights like Fedde Le Grand, Benny Benassi and Mark Knight as his peers, this is yet another triumph for Michael Woods and marks his growing importance in dance music today. After a year of unprecedented success, this residency is another milestone in his career, which sees Michael Woods playing as the face of the Ministry worldwide for a whole host of events, adding his name to the array of esteemed DJ’s that already accompany the Ministry brand and reputation.

For 2011, Michael Woods continues his relationship with Ministry and kick starts a new series of mix compilations for the brand, aptly entitled Ministry of Sound – Residents. Not a first for the artist, after the infamous Amnesia dance-house honoured Michael by asking him to mix one side of the “Amnesia Ibiza Deejay Sessions vol.6” compilation to accompany the Cream summer residency. All are prime examples of the ever growing popularity of Michael Woods, where his presence is always well received by fans and top clubs alike. It is clear that his creativity knows no bounds, and each attainment is just another chapter of this musical characters story.

Sean Tyas w/Tom Colontonio @ Rumor

Please email your names to deepspacelife@gmail.com to receive, priority entrance and FREE top shelf drink.

Rumor Presents…

Sean Tyas, a New York native, now residing in Switzerland, brings to the dancefloor a mix of melodic harmony and driving groove that is sure to be just as effective on the legs as it is on the heart.

He got his start in 1999 with his first set of Tech-12s and started to learn how to mix music, but just for fun on the side and a good excuse to buy dance records. But for him, this was not enough. In the coming couple of years, he put together a studio and began producing records as well. By the age of twenty six, he has already remixed artists such as Christina Aguilera, Pink, Moby, Daniel Bedingfield, Christina Milian, and PPK. During this time he got his start into professional DJing with clubs in NYC such as Shelter and Exit.

Moving to Europe proved to be a great move for Sean, doing all production for DJ Beam in Germany and building his experience as a studio producer. Eventually Sean decided to step away, concentrated much more on his own productions and remixes. “Mirella” was the product of this exodus, as it was promptly signed to Afterglow Recordings, seeing John Askew and Dave Joy remixes. This led to a follow-up remix of Duderstadt – Muhanjala, which has seen almost every playlist of any trance DJ this year, including Armin van Buuren and Paul van Dyk.

Sean’s remix of Beam – “On your Mind” proved to be another HUGE club smash. Caned CONSTANTLY by the likes of Paul van Dyk, John O’Callaghan, & Armin van Buuren, this remix essentially locked Sean in as one of 2006′s more endeared talents in the genre.
sean12forbio

The hype on his first Discover single “Lift”, was even more amplified by Sean’s winning of the Sander van Doorn – Punk’d Remix Competition, beating out over 250 other remixes. The following year and a half up until now, Sean has quickly been solidifying his place in the trance music genre with relentless remixes and productions.

On the DJ side of things, Sean has hit the ground at a running pace, and by now in 2008 he has already played in over 30 countries spread across 5 continents.

As 2009 comes around, Sean will now be getting back to the studio to focus on his original productions, and develop more as an production artist.

Morgan Page @ Rumor

Please email your names to deepspacelife@gmail.com to receive, priority entrance and FREE top shelf drink.

Rumor Presents…

With over 130 remixes to his name—including tracks by Madonna (“Miles Away”), Katy Perry (“I Kissed A Girl”), Tegan & Sara (“Back In Your Head”), and La Roux (“Bulletproof”)—Morgan Page has earned a solid reputation for transferring insatiable pop energy to the dance floor in the form of banging, progressive house tracks. High ranking spots on iTunes’ dance chart, Beatport’s progressive chart, and Billboard’s club charts affirmed his salability, while an ’09 Grammy nomination for Deadmau5’s remix of Page’s “The Longest Road” simultaneously bolstered his underground cred while spotlighting his skills as a songwriter.

Page released his first official full-length album in 2008. Entitled Elevate, it featured remixes of music by The Submarines, Dengue Fever, Nelly Furtado, Delerium, and others, along with a small handful of Page’s originals. It was the perfect calling card for a producer well steeped in vocal re-rubs, but eager to imprint his own unique mark upon dance music.

In 2010, Page will release Believe, a powerful, captivating album that makes good on his International Dance Music Awards nomination as Best Breakthrough Artist, and typifies his journey from bootleg remixer to award-winning producer and world renown DJ.

“Believe took a year and a half to make, but it was worth it!” says Page. “I went to great lengths to make songs I felt will last a long time, and to create an album you want to listen all the way through. It’s easily my best work so far.”

As a college student and mix show radio DJ in Burlington, Vermont, Page learned to navigate the space between pop music’s accessibility and the heady minimalism of progressive house early on. At the age of 18 he was nominated for Boston Music Award, and early in his career produced a remix of “Angels,” a track by seminal trip-hop band Wax Poetic, featuring the vocals of one Norah Jones. The dance community was quick to catch on, and his first instrumental tracks were signed to taste-making imprints like John Digweed’s Bedrock, Satoshi Tomiie’s Saw Recordings, and James Zabiela’s Hearing Aid. In 2003, he made the move to Los Angeles.

“I was juggling remixes with a day job, then brewing coffee at midnight,” says Page, “burning the candle at both ends and saving money so I could write music full-time.”

The landscape dramatically shifted for Page when he released a now infamous collection of bootleg remixes in 2005 entitled Cease And Desist. Without the help of master tapes (or label permission) he extracted a cappellas and signature melodies from tracks by David Bowie, Coldplay, Imogen Heap, Esthero, and The Kills with surgical precision, then rounded out the sound with luminous instrumentation and blazing beats. His undulating progressive feel and strict attention to kit detail—never the same kick drum twice, ever—was a perfect compliment to the larger than life vocal hooks. Dance music blogs like Resident Advisor and Beatportal took note, and Page’s own server continually crashed under the weight of the mix’s download traffic.

“It was like going to boot camp,” says Page of the arduous process behind creating Cease And Desist. “It was a great way of getting good at editing with limited resources, and it got out to so many people. You just didn’t know who was listening to it.”

Everyone from DJs and producers to managers, agents, and of course fans got their hands on the album, and its underground success helped pave the way for music future placements in television shows like Samantha Who? and Melrose Place, as well as cutting edge campaigns and in-stores for Bebe, Chanel, and Sephora. With his resume and repertoire quickly expanding, Page struck again with the release of Elevate, an album that KCRW DJ and electronic music pundit Jason Bentley described as “a breakthrough collection of original music and remixes” full of “subtle electronics and thoughtful songs.” Jo-Anne Greene from All Music Guide was even more forthright in her praise, referring to Page as “a man fast becoming a legend.”

Having long jettisoned his status as an up-and-comer, Page is ready to step into the next phase of his career, firmly joining the ranks of established “triple threat” DJs, producers, and remixers like Kaskade, Deadmau5, and Eric Prydz. It’s no surprise that the dance music scene is already buzzing about Believe.

“Fight For You” is the album’s first single, and is already being supported by world class DJs like Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Above and Beyond, Dave Dresden, and Hernan Cattaneo. Bolstered with impassioned lyrics and swift, clean guitars, the track embodies Believe’s fragile yet faithful feel, pushing through wistful cinematic shades to the promise of something better up ahead.

“Believe is very dark, but I’m not a dark person at all,” Page explains. “I just lean towards these specific chords and melodies. Melancholy with a little bit of hope.”

The Pete York cover “Strange Condition,” a simple, spatial arrangement that highlights Page’s ability let his vocalists control the direction of a song, and not be driven towards emotional peaks and valleys by just synths and bass. Page uses a similarly subtle approach on “Tell Me Why,” featuring the velveteen vocals of Télépopmusik’s Angela McCluskey. Elsewhere, Page enlists the talents of Matt Alber on “Agnus Dei” and Gabriel & Dresden alum Jan Burton on “Traces Remain” and the raucous “I’ve Had Friends.” On the moody “In The Dark,” Page himself takes a turn on the mic at the urging of another G&D contributor, Molly Bancroft, who was initially tapped to provide the vocals. For Page, it was simply the next logical progression in his maturation as a producer.

“I want to work with singer/songwriters who have depth to their lyrics, and I’m trying to bring influences in from other genres,” says Page. “It’s tragic to see all the tracks on Beatport that are just made for clubs. They’re great for what they are, but it’s not necessarily something you want to have in your car on repeat, or listen to again in 10 years. This album is really a reflection of myself, and I want these songs to last a long time.”

Rumor Presents…..

Tom Colontonio:
Electronic Dance Music is alive and well in the USA and proof comes in the unmistakable sound of Tom Colontonio. In the four short years since his first release, Colontonio has emerged as one of an exciting new breed of producers. Consistently releasing productions on exclusive
electronic music labels such as Armada, Vandit, Spinnin’ and Discover, he has successfully positioned himself alongside the most acclaimed producers in the industry.

Tom Colontonio’s assault on the EDM scene comes on the back of a longstanding DJing career and many years spent in bands and as a session guitarist. Undoubtedly, it is this solid musical background which gives his productions such technical depth and polished soundscapes. Soon after first turning his hand to production came Colontonio’s breakthrough release, 2007’s ‘Rounder’. The track received strong support and was championed by trance aficionado Paul van Dyk, catapulting Tom Colontonio into the consciousness of fans and industry insiders alike. He has gone on to emulate this success in subsequent productions with ‘The One’, ‘Reflection’ and ‘Elysium’ all showcasing his crisp production skills and ability to combine melody with energetic, hard-hitting low ends.

Without a doubt it is that trademark Colontonio sound, driving and atmospheric, that has cemented his tracks in the CD wallets of the DJ elite and earned him a place at the top of the “about to skyrocket” pile. Aside from his memorable original productions, Colontonio’s list of collaborations and remixes reads like an all-star line up. No stranger to the spotlight, this talented US producer can boast collaborations with Sophie Sugar and John O’Callaghan and also remixes for trance heavyweights Sean Tyas, Activa and Paul van Dyk. Keen to blur the lines between trance and house, Colontonio’s latest productions signal a departure in to an exciting, genre-bending style of EDM. DJ Michael Myers:
As the DJ credited with founding Philadelphia’s trance music scene, Michael Myers has always been one of the most dedicated pioneers of the Eastern Seaboard’s dance music community. An intensely serious minded and driven individual, Myers was first exposed to techno in 1992 via the music of renowned DJs Josh Wink and Frankie Bones. Although Myers began his career behind the tables spinning hip-hop records, he quickly discovered that electronic music was his calling. Drawn to the melodic tones of progressive trance, Myers found it to be “more intricate to mix than people would think. It’s a style of music that is almost a pop format. While pursuing his career as a DJ, Myers became deeply involved behind the scenes with two of Philadelphia’s dance music institutions: Local 13 and 611 Records. A dynamic member of the Local 13 production company since 1995, Myers is involved in every aspect of their events. He serves as a DJ, promoter, junior partner and event coordinator, helping out with everything from booking the talent to decorating the event venue. While gaining recognition at Local 13 events for his skills behind the tables, Myers quickly amassed an impressive touring schedule. As he traveled across the U.S., playing in Chicago, Detroit, New York City, Washington D.C., Baltimore, Phoenix and Pittsburgh, among other cities, Myers’ popularity exploded back in his hometown. Myers is proud to admit that he receives a profound sense of confidence knowing that’s he working toward a solid career in the music industry without really having a blueprint on how it’s done. Says Myers: “Bringing Philadelphia an atmosphere that shows what dance music is all about. It is truly a wonderful gift.

PATRICK M:
Originally from Buenos Aires, Argentina, Patrick M’s name has become synonymous with the Miami music scene. Patrick has made a name for himself reaching different audiences and demographics across the globe through his ingenious beats, original productions and charismatic performances.

With his unique , deep-funky house music style, Patrick M was part of a select group of DJs that helped pave the way for house music in Argentina.
In 2003, Patrick arrived at was to become his home away from home: Miami Beach. Ready to conquer the international market, Miami’s dynamic club scene ensured Patrick’s success. He joined forces with Chopin Hagen, a Buenos Aires based music store, and helped introduce the Grooveman Music concept to the world. The store quickly gained prominence and became the leading dance and dirty house music supplier for South Florida. His numerous collaborations and original beats helped brand him as part of the “Miami Sound” by many Miami resident DJs and producers, including Oscar G, Robbie Rivera and Ralph Falcon.

Ceaseless bookings in Miami’s hotspots such as Crobar and Nikki Beach allowed Patrick to become the notorious dance music producer and DJ we know today. His residencies in such venues infiltrated his music, reflecting Miami’s vivacious energy. Collaborations and close friendships with DJs like Chus, Erick Morillo, Danny Tenaglia, Eric Prydz, Pete Tong, Roger Sanchez,, Behrouz, and Yousef have led to legendary on-deck team-ups, delivering mind-blowing performances to audiences across the globe.

In 2005, Patrick’s talent landed him a spot at Creamfields dance music festival where he performed in front of 45,000 enthusiasts, and delivered a performance to be remembered. Shortly after, Patrick M became The Terrace Resident DJ at the legendary SPACE MIAMI, where he has become known for his unforgettable marathon sets.

Just recently, Patrick M wrapped up his 2011 world tour. Ibiza, Madrid, Bilbao, Roma, Tunisia, Tel Aviv, Tokyo, Portugal and multiple stops in both North and South America were just some of the locations where Patrick dispersed his infectious beats.

Soon to celebrate his 2 years with record label Stereo Productions, one of the most respected and coveted record labels in the industry, Patrick M shows no signs of slowing down. With his talents on the decks and in the studio, it seems there is nothing Patrick M can’t do.
