NEW YORK, NY – A decade’s expertise as a radio jock. Studio credits as a skilled remixer. A tight stable of original artist tunes. A 14-year residency in the tony Hamptons’ only all-day beach party. A record deal with seminal house music label, Nervous Records. It’s true: THEO has it all.
As he readies to release the third installment in Nervous Records’ successful Nervous Nitelife series of mix compilations – Nervous Nitelife: Summer Clubbing3 (Nervous), for release July7th, 2009 – THEO takes a moment to survey the clubbing landscape he helped craft. The old adage of hard work and perseverance bearing fruit has been proven right, once again, in THEO’s life. At the height of his powers as a club DJ, radio personality and dance music producer, THEO’s never been more relevant to the world of electronic dance music.
THEO (real name: THEO PISANI) currently hosts weekly dance mixshows on Sirius XM Radio (“AIR” on BPM, Friday late-nights) and on “Party 105.3FM” radio (WDRE, New York, Fridays evening drive-time), as well as a separate show on Party 105 (WDRE, Saturdays afterhours). His current position as one of dance music’s most influential tastemakers was not attained overnight, but rather earned over the course of years working as program director and mixshow coordinator on college radio stations at Bryant College (Rhode Island), Brooklyn College (Brooklyn), and Stony Brook University (Long Island). Not long after college, THEO would score commercial radio gigs working at WLIR, WBLI and WXXP (which later became WDRE/Party 105), mixing on live broadcasts. At WXXP, THEO was hired by VIC LATINO as mixshow coordinator and eventually was named music director. (WDRE is a BDS-monitored station also broadcasting into Nassau County on 101.5FM.)
Throughout THEO’s years on radio, he played steady club gigs and built a much envied following on his home turf of Long Island and throughout the New York tri-state area. THEO’s advice to aspiring deejays is, “Get a residency at a good club and build a crowd. That’s the only way to create a following.” THEO’s previous releases include editions 1 and 2 of the Nervous Nitelife: Summer Clubbing series for Nervous Records, in 2007 and 2008, respectively, and NYC Mixx for UBL Music in 2006. Special video footage recorded this summer will be incorporated into a DVD for release in 2010 on Nervous.
In the media, THEO has appeared in a variety of print and online outlets, including: DJ Times, Remix, Club World, Musico Pro, Accent On Tampa Bay, Jive, The Southampton Press, The East Hampton Independent, The Miami New-Times, The Las Vegas Weekly, Las Vegas Citylife, Holmdel Happenings, Raves.com, Clubplanet.com, and others.
THEO has shared the bill with international superstars like TIËSTO and DAVID GUETTA, and as of summer 2009, THEO can be seen and heard deejaying regularly at the country’s finest nightclubs, including: Harrah’s Pool (Atlantic City), Cielo (New York), M2 (New York), Pacha (New York), Neptune Beach Club (Long Island, NY), Nocturnal (Miami), Water Taxi Beach (Long Island City, NY), and Island (Long Island City, NY), among other venues. Official Summer Clubbing3 release parties will be held at Neptune (July 11th), Cielo (July 16th), and M2 (July 25th).
For the third year-in-a-row, THEO has been nominated by DJ Times Magazine as among “America’s Best DJs,” a fan-powered poll that has seen THEO consistently ranking in the top 10. THEO is also endorsed by Red Bull.
